AST-24 inch 212cc Two-Stage Electric Start Gas Snow Blower Snow Thrower
As I write this, it is the 2nd week of October and the temperature is in the 80s and very muggy. I have yet to use the machine, this review is limited to assembly. In short, it is a real Pain In The Butt. The low rating is directly related to the assembly issues I am lamenting.Amico plays fast and loose with tolerances. Nothing is simply bolt and go, which I expected for a machine in this price range. A lot of bending of sheet metal and ingenuity is required to get stuff connected, counterintuitively the snow chute is the worst. Nuts and screws are in locations that make getting a wrench into position tough. I suggest a set of box or combination wrenches are the way to go, you'll never get a socket into any of the spaces. A large vocabulary of 4 letter words helps, too.The assembly instructions are poor, too. They rely on photographs that are blurry and washed out, and leave little detail in text. Line drawings would help a lot.Last, this is a caution, not a dig. The engine has no oil, and none is provided. Be sure to add some before you start up the first time. They do provide a funnel. To say some nice things, the AST-24 appears to be sufficiently rugged, and I would be surprised if it doesn't perform as I expect. I would not have it in the snowbound Midwest where you need more horsepower and a large cutting path, but it is almost overkill for the mid-Atlantic East Coast where I live now.
